14” BABYLAND RAG ‘Jan’ & ‘Grete’ CLOTH Dutch pair 1910
This charming pair of cloth Dutch
children has “Life-Like” printed faces on cloth bodies with
floppy-joints at shoulders & hips and mitten hands. They are in very
good condition and all-original. Their sweet somber faces have blue
eyes and printed center-part hair. The boy Jan wears full gathered
pants and a striped shirt with matching cap. Grete wears a pale blue &
white striped cotton skirt, floral-printed windowpane apron, striped
bodice with lace trim and kerchief tucked in around her neck. The
lace-trimmed Dutch bonnet has a pointed front brim and poufed gathered
back. Her cotton petticoat and matching shorts are also lace-trimmed.
Both dolls wear real hand-carved wooden shoes and knit stockings.
Besides some soil and some water staining, they are a sweet
hard-to-find pair.
