RARE 21" Ca.1840 Pink Tint CHINA HEAD “Young Victoria”
Deep pink tinting, a long neck, deep sloping shoulders, molded bosoms, darkest brown painted hair known as "Young Victoria", with no damage and no repair with her factory original body with lower legs in attached striped stockings and red kid-leather boots, are major highlights of this early Kestner china lady. This gorgeous young woman is in excellent condition with a perfect shoulderhead measuring 4.75" high, 4.5" across the shoulders, and head circumference of 7.5". Her hand-pressed china is quite thick with a lovely all-over pink tint and hand-painted features: blue eyes with large pupils, highlights, black & thin red lid lines and nearly straight eyebrows. Her nostril dots are circles, cheeks are rosy and her deep red mouth has a thin line between the lips. There are two painted parts in her hair, which is smoothed down covering her ears into a braided bun high in back. The body is marked in old sepia ink: "g (drawing of lower leg) / 60"; it is firmly stuffed, probably with horsehair & cotton, stitch-jointed at shoulders, hips and knees, so she sits well. Leather lower arms have stitched mitten hands. The clothing is antique and may be original: brown-dotted calico dress gathered at waist and low neckline, with full skirt and deep ruffle from the knees. Underneath are matching petticoat & pantalets with exquisite Broiderie Anglais hems, and a sleeveless bodice. This wonderful china lady is a prize and a treasure!!
