46"x 76" Chinle, AZ 1870-1890 NAVAJO RUG-CHIEFS BLANKET
Gorgeous hand-dyed colors of rare orange, tan, sky blue and red give this excellent condition hand-spun wool Navajo Chief's Blanket or Rug a variegated and stunning aspect. Loom-woven pre-1890, the skill is masterful and there were no mistakes made. The ends have braided yarn finishing and the sides are perfectly straight and woven within the main field. Whether hung on the wall or draped over a railing, this is an breathtaking find! You have to really look but, 1” from the end there is 1 warp thread that broke were there is ¼” hole that could be mended. It doesn’t really show or detract from this early wonderful rug.
