21" American Character 1955 Cloth ELOISE NM + Wrist Tag
Adorable, charming and impish, Eloise has been a childhood favorite since Kay Thompson's first book was published. American Character Doll Corp. made this near-mint cloth Eloise likeness in 1955. Her original wrist tag reads: "ELOISE© (illustration) ©Eloise Ltd." plus company name & address. The tag is on the original string and has no wrinkles, just a very tiny lower corner bend. Eloise would be perfect and crispy mint if not for a shadow of beige from ear-to-ear across her face – the factory probably used a rubber band to keep her hair neat in shipping. Her full wig of light yellow yarn hair is topped with a big red satin bow enhancing perfect painted features. Eloise's floppy cloth body is firmly stuffed with no damage, no stains or repairs. The cotton pique body-blouse has 'pearl buttons' down the front ruffle (pale age-darkening on puffed sleeves), and the navy-blue wool felt skirt remains crisply pleated. Shiny black oilcloth ankle-tie shoes and knee-high rayon knit socks complete this favored child. She's too sweet to resist!!
