20” Papier-Mache 1860s M & S SUPERIOR 2015 All-Original
Beautifully preserved, near mint and all-original, this endearing Sonneberg, Germany, papier-mache lady has molded blonde hair in the flat-top style with curls all around. She retains the Muller & Strassburger paper label: "M & S Superior 2015”. Painted long multi-stroke eyebrows arch gracefully over lovely 2-tone blue eyes that have a sweet gentle gaze, black & pink lid lines and dotted lower lashes. Sweetly smiling mouth and rosy plump cheeks, a fine straight nose and double chin round out her features. Pristine factory twill body has perfect Kintzback papier-mache hands (previous to his 1869 patent for china hands) and she sits well, with stitch-jointed shoulders, knees & hips, and attached tan leather boots with silver buttons. The original striped silk two-piece walking fashion suit is melting, but is intact enough to stay on the doll or use to make a pattern. Pretty eyelet trims hem her cotton petticoat & pantalets, with fine-tucks chemisette. For fans of the earlier lady dolls, MS Superior is gorgeous and very hard to resist!! Very clean from a non smoking home. This is one of the best ever.
