10" BELSNICKLE German Santa Candy Container MINT
A stern visage and long hooded robes proves this to be Belsnickle, the German Christmas saint long before Santa Claus evolved. He is in mint condition, made with cotton batting over a card tube for filling with candy. The face is a hard plastic mask, hand-painted with blue eyes, wrinkle lines and white brows. His beard, moustache, hair and sleeve cuffs are cotton batting and he holds a tiny bottlebrush tree. A hard plastic cup slides into the bottom for a base and to keep the candy inside. It has a small section clipped off each side to facilitate removal. Gold metal glitter sparkles on his cape and gold metal braid decorates the front of his robes. A vintage Belsnickle in this condition is a rare find.
Came from a home where everthing was 1950’s and older.
