18" Circa 1840 PARIAN GENTLEMAN Rare brown Molded Hair
A charming young gentleman, this German “Parian” is circa 1850 and in near-mint condition with a perfect head on original body. His rare dark-brown molded hair is wind-blown with brush-marks around his face.
Painted eyes are blue with black and pale-red lid-lines and brows to match his hair. Cheeks are round and rosy and his closed mouth is solemn but sweet. The shoulderhead measures 5” high and 4” across with 7.5” head circumference.
White original bisque lower arms (left hand missing fingers) are original on newer cloth upper arms, and the floppy-jointed body is firmly stuffed with horsehair.Lower legs and feet are also cloth with fantastic original tie-front leather shoes and darling antique red-banded socks. His handsome very old dove-grey wool suit is all hand-stitched with self-covered buttons, and fits him perfectly with a cut-away jacket, vest and trousers over an incredibly authentic antique linen shirt. A pocket is hidden under a pleat in his coat-tail; a linen neckerchief and grey wool top-hat completes his costume. He’s absolutely wonderful; from non-smoking home!!
