11" Rare c1896 "Hexe" WITCH with Warts A Character
Cuno & Otto Dressel's character Witch is so rare, and deliciously spooky, too. She has a perfect bisque head with deeply molded brows, wrinkles and warts. The head is incised: "Hexe // 12/0". Depthless brown glass set eyes peer austerely, and her open/closed mouth has molded teeth with the center tooth molded 'missing'. Her wrinkles are accented in coral, warts are deeper coral and her cheeks are perfectly ruddy for a Witch. Variegated grey mohair original wig is massed into a bun in back. The composition body is jointed at neck, shoulders, and hips, with attached wool-felt undershirt, knickers and leg-wraps with toes showing. The perfect underwear for a Witch. NO LACE. The fantastic antique costume includes a black shirt and cape, soft-red skirt matching the cape lining, and ivory apron with double-crossed straps, and a petticoat underneath. The Witch's pointed hat is embellished with cloth and velvet fall foliage. Witchy-Poo can fly away on her realistically fashioned antique broom –she's not a bad witch, but out of this world!
