23” Nicely Dressed FLAT-TOP 1870s PARIAN, Old Underwear
A grand lady, in excellent condition, she's dressed for an afternoon social. Artistically painted delicate features have thin brown eyebrows, red & black lid lines, dreamy blue eyes, plump rosy cheeks and tiny smiling red mouth. Pale cafe-au-lait hair has deep comb marks on the flat top into curls at the forehead and sausage curls all around. The newer cloth body is stitch-jointed at shoulders, hips & knees, so she sits very well; newer bisque arms have lovely hands. Her antique papier-mache lower legs, correct for this era, have blue ankle boots with heels, and cream-painted socks with red garters. A sheer linen chemisette, eyelet-hemmed pantalets, and two petticoats – one with many tucks – are all antique. A past owner made the two-piece dress for her in the 1870s style with antique embroidered trim and crocheted buttons. The shoulderplate has been professionally restored and is fully covered by the high collar on her jacket. She's very sweet!
