28" TETE JUMEAU 13 Closed Mouth c1885 & Costume
Such a dear and lovely antique 28” French child! Tete Jumeau is in excellent condition, with fine bisque head, composition and wood body. Head stamped in red: “DEPOSE // TETE JUMEAU // 13”, painted artist check marks "L 8" and incised “13”, has the original cork pate.
There is a very faint 1”x 2” area re-glued on her forehead at the crown – only visible up very close. Tete Jumeau has big chocolate brown glass set paperweight eyes, finest painted lashes and feathered brows, big rosy cheeks, a sweet closed mouth and dimpled chin, plus pierced earlobes. The auburn original human hair wig falls in soft waves past her waist.
“JUMEAU MEDAILLE D’OR PARIS” stamped composition & wood body with original paint is jointed at neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and hips (shoulder and elbow joints have paint touch-ups).
Beautifully dressed in an antique dress of wool challis with leg o’ mutton sleeves and tiered lace over the skirt; a dusky-blue silk satin sash wraps her waist. Antique lace-hemmed slip and pantaloons are underneath, with lacy cotton knit socks and leather ankle-strap shoes. The ruched silk de chine bonnet is a perfect compliment and tops off the outfit nicely. This precious Jumeau is a treasure; from a non-smoking home!!
