33" Southwest TURQUOISE & STONE FETISH NECKLACE 1950s
One hundred tiny mixed-stone and turquoise animals support the four large turquoise bears and central bear of this fabulous circa 1950s Native American Southwest Fetish necklace. The necklace is in near mint condition – we can only find one fish with a tip of his tail missing. At 33" total length, the animals reach 28" around with 5" of wrapped linen string at the center top for comfortably resting at the back of one's neck when worn. The hand-carved animals have painted carved-in eyes and represent all kinds of fauna necessary to Indian spirit: bears, foxes, beaver, otters, birds, turtles, frogs, fish and lizards. These creatures all measure @1" long and 1/2" high. The top pair of side-bears measure 1.75" long by 1" high; the lower pair measures 1.75" long by 1.25" high, and the standing grizzly at center is 7/8" tall and 5/8" wide. This is a classic piece of Native American handiwork, which will superbly grace Western Wear or High Fashion!!
