18" SIMON & HALBIG #1249 SANTA c1898 Separate-Ball Body
Known for her bright & captivating expression, and distinctive dark V in the bottom lip, the Simon & Halbig #1249 SANTA was made circa 1898 for distributor Hamburger & Co. This is such a darling size for SANTA! She has a perfect bisque head incised "S & H. 1249. // DEP // Germany // SANTA". The finest painted lashes under feathered brows surround luscious chocolate brown glass sleep eyes, her cheeks are rosy and the two-tone open mouth has four tiny porcelain teeth above that adorable lower lip. Pretty soft-red mohair makes up her original wig, which is still attached to the plaster pate. Her body has the original finish except where the right hip-joint and left knee-joint have been touched-up; fingertips have small paint wear. Gorgeous antique windowpane silk makes up her dress, fashioned with bretelles, puffed sleeves, lace and a pleated silk sash. Underneath is an antique petticoat, plus matching slip and pantalets, cotton knit stockings and beautiful white kid ankle-tie shoes. This is a fine and precious doll to cherish!!
