French Tete Jumeau Knitting Automaton by Roullet&Decamp
This is such a beautiful doll that is extremely rare. Marked lightly on the back of the bisque head with he red Tete Jumeau Stamp plus an incised 5. No damage and No repair. Circa 1870. Peaches and cream complexion which is very typical of Jumeau. They (Jumeau) really were one of the BEST place to get your dolls. Finely feathered Jumeau brows, delicate painted upper and lower lashes, sweet almost smiling mouth. Strawberry blonde mohair wig. She sits upon her original French Gold Guilt chair. Key Wind is at her side. Also the stop and go lever is at her side. Wind her up and the beautiful music plays her head tilts up and then down as though she is watching her hands knit. Both hands rotate back and forth making a knitting motion. Her legs are crossed to give her the real lady like look.
Dressed in a beautiful original cream colored lace and net dress with Bru Blue silk trim. Her silk slip underneath is melting some. Her cotton original gauze pantaloons are very beautiful and full with the same matching lace and silk ribbon.
Original silk shoes and socks. She sits on her original red velvet platform. The platform does have some wear to velvet which is normal for something this old. She is pictured in the Automaton Book showing she is made by Roullet & Decamps. Roullet & Decamps bought the heads from Jumeau. Roullet and Decamps marketed the dolls.
Their creations are also one of the BEST. If you buy this doll I know you will be pleased. She has abundant charm.
