25" RARE Martha CHASE GEORGE WASHINGTON c1920 Original
This wonderful Martha Chase George Washington is definitely museum quality, besides being a finely hand-made antique doll. His head and hair are molded as one and attached to the stuffed cloth body (we haven't undressed him so body marks are unknown). His arms and legs are stitch-jointed, including elbows & knees. Martha Chase's painting is exquisite with thick paint to form hair plus a little braided-cloth pigtail in back. His eyes are a watery gray-blue with finely painted upper lashes, tan brows, rosy cheeks, patrician nose and closed mouth. His paint is wonderful with only a few fine craze-lines (well, at his age).
The arms and legs are a lighter peachy color with softly tinted nails.
George's uniform is so finely and correctly made in 1770s military fashion with over sized frock coat having official brass buttons down the front, on pocket flaps and in back, plus tiny brass buttons along each of the turned-back coattails, pant hems and vest front. The navy serge is lined in soft-caramel silk sateen (silk is melting a bit, some restoration to cuffs). The long vest and breeches match, beautiful lace forms a jabot at his throat and faux shirt cuffs. Underneath is a long-tailed starched cotton shirt with long sleeves, cotton jersey combination underwear and black silk stockings. (Poor G. W. has lost his shoes or boots.) This opportunity won't come along again soon - patriots unite! Clean from a non smoking home!
