11” “WATERFALL” Hair-do CHINA Lady all-original 1840s
Serene and lovely, this 1840s
china young lady is in excellent all-original condition with no damage
and no repair on her antique kid leather body. Her molded
black-painted hair flows back in wings at the sides, swept up in back
in the sought-after “Waterfall” Hair-Do (some wear of black paint on
back and edges of hair). Fine brush marks frame her sweet face, with
watery blue eyes , black lid lines and brows, rosy cheeks, nostril
dots and slightly smiling mouth with darker centerline. Her deep
shoulders have two sew holes front & back tying the head to the body
with cotton twill tape. The sturdy sawdust-stuffed kid body has a tiny
waist, legs with no joints and sewn-on brown velvet boots,
floppy-jointed arms are straight with long skinny separately cut
fingers. Woven ‘cinnamon pink’ gingham makes up her dress with
drawstring décolletage, high waist and full leg -o-mutton sleeves. A
matching capelet covers her shoulders. Though faded, the dress is the
antique original and becomes the lady well. Underneath is her original
chemise, petticoat and pantaloons with deep handmade lace hems tucked
up. This is a wonderful china and not to be missed!!
