4 HERWI CANDY CONTAINERS 13" Santa 3-7" Elves 1950-60
Here's an engaging group of jolly little men depicting European German Santa Claus and Elves ready to decorate the fireplace mantle or buffet for the holidays. They were made in Germany, and are in very good to excellent original condition. Round papier-mache heads have hand-painted faces with rosy cheeks, bulbous noses and tall pointed hats. Papier-mache bodies are stout and sturdy with stand-on-their-own feet and original accessories. Each is described below:
SANTA = 13" = detaches at neck; flocked covering, chenille trim, fur beard; faux feather tree; "Made in Western Germany"
ELF Green Mittens = 8.5" = detaches at waist; Nodder (neck spring), enamel finish, chenille hat trim, fur beard; floral-printed paper inside (like German Easter eggs)
ELF Red Mittens = 7" = detaches at waist - early hard plastic body marked "(animal logo) HERWI // Made in Germany"; Nodder (neck spring), chenille hat trim & beard; faux feather tree; "Container Made in Germany" stamped underneath
ELF Blue Mittens = 7" = conical body, detaches at neck; flocked covering, braid trim, fur beard; faux feather tree & hard plastic lantern; "Made in Western Germany"
They're totally charming and just in time to decorate for the ho-ho-holidays!!
