11.75" Voit PAPIER-MACHE c1860 All Original Beaded
Just look at this BEAUTIFUL Doll……So charming, all-original and complete, this 11.75" German papier-mache is from circa 1860, dressed as a young lady from Hesse. She is in near-mint condition with a perfect shoulderhead measuring 3" tall and 3" across the shoulders and head circumference of 5.25". Hand-painted lashes under long arched brows, with rosy cheeks and smiling heart & line mouth surround black pupil-less glass eyes. Her firmly stuffed polished cotton body has straight un-jointed legs and floppy joints at shoulders with shapely papier-mache lower arms and expressive hands. The Hessian costume is incredibly detailed and superbly factory-made. There is a polished cotton chemise, separate sleeves, lace-edged collar & apron. The tweed & black velvet weskit is trimmed with metallic braid and tiny gold metal sequins. Colorful intricate beading covers the stomacher topped by metal lace. Sky-blue silk ribbons which is the only part of her with any issues there is some melting of the trim on her hat, shoulders and waist. The rest is so INCREDIBLE A brown skirt with lavender inner hem, brown petticoat with green hem trimmed in gold braid, brown painted cheesecloth petticoat with red wool hem, and a third brown petticoat with rose cotton hem: she's definitely dressed for a colder climate! Cotton finest-knit stockings are held up with red wool braid garters. Simply breath taking in her "trachten" of Hesse, this is a very hard-to-resist young lady!!
