14.25" Mechanical c1890 GIRL PLAYING LUTE All-Original
The most enchanting tune plays when the young lady's middle is squeezed rhythmically. The doll is all-original with a perfect bisque shoulderhead, full and curly mohair wig, huge blue spiral glass set eyes, and silk costume representing the Naples region of Italy. Long feathered eyebrows arch over her finely painted lashes, plump rosy cheeks, dimpled chin and open mouth with four pearly teeth. Her lower arms are hand-carved wood and lower legs are composition; they are wired to the wooden torso, which has the mechanism & music box inside. The faster she is squeezed, the faster her arms move 'playing' the hand-painted wooden lute, and the tune becomes more than just tinkling notes. The girl is dressed in pale-blue and cream with pretty lace collar and colorful ribbon bands on her apron (the clothing is melting, but because it is cotton-backed silk, and lined with cotton, the costume is still intact and the melting not intolerable). So charming and entertaining, she'd love to play her tune for you!
