16” POURED WAX INFANT 1870’s glass eyes inserted hair
In excellent to mint condition,
with incredible inset cobalt spiral glass eyes, this is one of the
dearest poured wax babies, in her unbelievable original outfit. The
shoulderhead has a molded chest; head is slightly turned to the left,
with the finest dark blonde baby hair inserted into the
purposely-darkened scalp hair-by-hair. Features are hand-painted:
dotted brows, lashes, eye & lid lines, nostril dots and rosy closed
mouth give Baby a most pleasant expression. Baby’s lower arms and legs
are also poured wax, tied through the body without brass grommets. Her
linen body is stitch-jointed at shoulders, hips and knees so she sits
well – the knees are still stitched together from the factory. Baby's
original gown and underclothes fit with perfection, with tucks,
feather stitching on eyelet bodice & lower front panel, and dainty
lace around neck and sleeves, measure 28” from the shoulder with twill
tape-synched gathers across the bodice and waist. Underneath she wears
a pique diaper, wool flannel bellyband, sleeveless under-wrapper, wool
flannel full slip, and crisp cotton full slip with lace & eyelet
matching the dress. The bellyband and under-wrapper have "Baby"
hand-written. Her tiny bonnet is Valenciennes lace lined in silk.
Definitely an exquisite not-to-be-missed presentation.
