10” S & H-Franz Schmidt RARE #1299 CHARACTER BABY c1912
The face on this adorable character toddler has so much personality for one so small! Head incised: “1299 // Simon & Halbig // S & H // 3 ½”, made by Simon & Halbig for Franz Schmidt & Co., she is crisply molded and artfully painted with flyaway brows, upper & lower lashes, rosy dimpled cheeks and chin, and a tiny open pouty mouth with two miniscule teeth. The composition body with smooth original finish is jointed at neck, shoulders and hips. Her light brown wig is mohair in a short baby style, and her factory set eyes are palest blue spiral glass. Dressed in sky-blue cotton trimmed with white loopy braid, matching panties are attached, and a crocheted wool sweater keeps baby warm.
