24” TETE JUMEAU French Doll Circa 1885 ALL ORIGINAL
Such a darling French child in
excellent condition with perfect bisque head and working crier! Head
stamped in red: “Tete Jumeau” with artist check marks and incised
“11”. This Tete Jumeau has huge blue paperweight eyes. So adorable
with her long super-fine painted lashes and thick multi-stroke brows,
big lightly blushed cheeks and a sweet open mouth with molded upper
teeth plus pierced ears and her original cork pate (two tiny pimples
near mouth). The auburn-brown human hair wig has center part and waves
down her back. Jumeau composition & wood body with original paint, one
pull-string crier and space for another, leather band around chest and
screen voice hole between shoulder blades. Jointed at neck, shoulders,
elbows, wrists, knees and hips. This is a beautiful body with only
minor wear. The gorgeous Antique lace-trimmed fine wool dress has
ruched bodice from neck to dropped waist encircled by lavender silk
picot ribbon sash, puffed short sleeves and two box pleat ruffles at
the hem. Lace-hemmed pantaloons and petticoat with tucks, lacy cotton
lisle socks and leather ankle-strap marked Jumeau shoes with faille
bows, marked: “11 // Paris (bee) Depose” plus a sticker on one: “No.
117 // Au Louvre // Paris // ??”. She wears a peach silk bonnet with
large pleated ruffles of scrim and silk plus two cloth & velvet
flowers. This beautiful Jumeau is to be treasured!!
