37" STEIFF 1966-only STUDIO Mohair GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG
Steiff's Studio "Schaferhund", #1385/90 made only in 1966, has super-soft mohair and is in near-mint condition with original collar and raised-script "Steiff" button-in-ear (with a shred of the yellow cloth tag attached) confirmnig Steiff pedigree. Schaferhund is 37.5" tall from the floor to the tips of his ears, 50" long from nose to tip of tail and 10" wide at the shoulders - he is not "Arco", which was made later & was smaller. His face, ears and body have short mohair, while longer mohair lines his ears, chest, tail and back of legs. Amber glass eyes, open doggie-smiling mouth with long coral felt tongue, and red felt-lined green leather collar with pressed-brass studs are original. This well-behaved and huggable dog has a framework inside that makes for a very sturdy animal – a child (or large doll) could sit on his back! Very clean unplayed with from a non smoking home.
