23” RARE One-of-a-kind Portrait DEWEES COCHRAN 1930s
The opportunity to own a Dewees
Cochran hand-made doll is a rare occurrence! This cheerful young lady
is in excellent condition in her original dress & pantalets. She is
not marked but is definitely the work of Mrs. Cochran. This early
portrait is hand-painted with blue eyes, miniscule real eyelashes,
wide open-closed smiling mouth and lightly freckled skin. Hand-formed
by Dewees herself made with Plastic Wood®, a new product in the 1930s,
the head, shoulders and chest are formed as one with the long slender
arms jointed at the shoulders. Her body is intricately pieced cloth
with stitched floppy joints at the hips so she sits; lower legs are
also made of Plastic Wood®. The beautiful wig is finest strawberry
blonde human hair with side part and brass barrette. Her tailored
perfectly fitted chambray shirtwaist dress has a button-on starched
collar, buttons down the front and real button cuffs. Lace-hemmed
pantalets with pink satin ribbons at the knees, a crisp taffeta & net
petticoat and leather shoes finish the costume. This enchanting girl
is a treasure!!
