18” Milliners Model PAPIER MACHE all-original late-1850
Here is a gently loved
papier-mache, with molded & painted hair. She is in excellent
condition and all-original. A pre-Greiner-type known as a Milliners
Model with the Covered Wagon hair style, her deep shoulder plate is
unmarked. Her face has a serene expression with painted dark blue
eyes, a small nose and a tiny slightly smiling mouth. Lightly blushed
cheeks, multi-stroke brows and super fine upper lid lines complete the
young lady’s face. The head has no repainting; only some light rubs to
her cheeks and tiny forehead mark. Her hair is center parted with 10
sausage curls around. The very deep shoulder plate is on a stiff
Milliner-type slim leather body with carved wooden lower arms and
hands with separate thumbs, left hand has some touch up, old leather
patches. Lower wooden legs with flat feet have orange-painted flat
shoes. This lady’s original two-piece calico dress has a long jacket
over ankle-length skirt with ruffled hems on both. Cotton lace-edged
drawers, plain chemise and wool petticoat finish the fine costume. She
is a sweet wonderful doll. Very charming from a non smoking home.!
