c1910 KESTNER 172 GIBSON GIRL Original Body Bisque Arms
A lovely and stylish young woman,
this is Kestner's "Gibson Girl". Her perfect bisque shoulderhead with
no damage and no repair has the original pate and light brunette
mohair wig, brown glass sleep eyes and delicate coloring with rosy
cheeks, closed mouth, multi-stroke brows and fine lower lashes. Her
head is tilted chin-up to affect the perfect hauteur of the drawings
by Charles Dana Gibson. The back of her head is incised: "172 // 7",
lower edge back of shoulders, under kid: "G. made in Germany." and she
retains her Kestner crown & streamers paper chest label: "JDK Germany
// 1/2 Cork Stuffed". The gorgeous clean kid body has a padded chest
and bisque lower arms; fully pin-jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips &
knees, with tiny stitched toes. There is a small patch at right elbow,
and at each shoulder. Gibson Girl wears her original leather
three-button boots with heels. Her shirtwaist is antique striped
brocade with fine net ruffle at high collar, scalloped braid and black
velvet ribbon trims. The cotton-lined skirt is changeable olive silk
taffeta with pointed motifs outlined in black velvet ribbon. Her
underwear consists of fancy and plain petticoats, lace-hemmed
pantaloons and silky knit hose. The piece-de-resistance is her huge
fine straw hat with large silk double bows and iridescent black
feathers cascading off the back. Beautifully dressed in all antique
fabric by a skilled seamstress.
