12" Kestner #226 ALL-BISQUE Sleep Eyes-Mohair Wig c1910

All-bisque and so adorable, this Kestner mold #226 Character Baby is in near-mint condition with his original brown glass sleep eyes and pale-blonde mohair wig on original plaster pate. Perfect head incised: “C. made in 7. // Germany // Z. J.D.K. Z. // 226.” The finest painted lashes under feathered brows, plump blushed cheeks, sweet dimpled double chin and a smiling open mouth enhance the cheerful demeanor. Jointed at neck, shoulders & hips, the body is well formed with chubby belly, baby-fat rolls at knees and elbows, and open hands with delicate fingers - the right arm is slightly bent and the left bends in further, so that when raised fingers meet the mouth! A grey line at left wrist is a factory mold-pull, as are the marks on bottoms of feet (1/8” tiny flake off inside left hip is the only flaw). Dressed simply in wool knits - pink sweater and cream panty - the wonderful all-bisque body still shows. Baby carries an antique celluloid baby rattle, which has always been in his possession; this is a rare prize not to be missed!!!
