21” RARE Alexander PORTRAIT SERIES 1946 JUDY Original
Judy’s gown supposedly represents one worn by Judy Garland in the movie "Meet Me In St. Louis". She is in excellent all-original condition with exquisite hand-painted features (Wendy face mold) and lovely tagged gown. This is one of the hardest of the series to find. Her beautiful brunette mohair wig is rolled and pulled up in front to frame her gentle expression, with deeply shadowed amber sleep eyes, shaded eyelids, painted lid lines and long outer lashes, dramatic feathered brows, plus full hair upper lashes. Her cheeks are delicately rosy and her sweet mouth is cherry-red. Judy is straight-legged with blushed knees and flat feet; jointed at neck, shoulders & hips. Crazing on her face and arms is visible up close; both legs have peeling stabilized on sides. The dress is nice but, could be better. The net around the neck is worn, the dress is faded from blue which is normal, the dress has been washed. Her pretty dress has palest pink taffeta shoulder-to-hem gores all the way around to make the fitted bodice flow into the skirt. Fine net covers her shoulders, with satin ribbon around the neck, buttons inside for bosoms, three-layer ruffled sleeves, and zips up in back. Insets of picot braid-edged rayon crepe were originally crystal-pleated to resemble large flowers around the hem. Underneath are pink cotton panties and long petticoat – both with satin ribbon ties at the waist. Original cream leatherette center-snap shoes and opaque pink stockings are on her feet. A bandeau of pale blue cloth blossoms across her hair, and a nosegay on the bodice, complete this dramatic ensemble. The gown and petticoat both have the outlined blue-printed white cotton tags: “Madame Alexander // New York U.S.A.” Clean from a non smoking home.
