13" x 34" Wooden PULL-ALONG DOLL CARRIAGE Dated 1850
Hand-painted yellow scrolling decorates this beautiful Prussian-blue wooden pull-along doll carriage. An attached scrap of cloth carries the provenance: "Victorian Doll Carriage 1850 // Elizabeth Titus Fisher", which also says "183 Denver 1959" – most likely a label from someone's collection. The carriage is in excellent condition and measures 13" wide, 34" long and 13" tall - when the oilcloth hood is raised, the total height is 14"; the wheels measure 7.5" across. The carriage will hold a doll up to 18" or 20" tall (the inside bed needs 11" at the longest from the back of the doll to the bottom of the feet when sitting), and the handle extends 18" from the front – this is the kind of handle that could be pulled by a child or small dog! A looped leg of wire helps the carriage stay upright when sitting still, and a quilted mattress and pink silk pillow cushion the inside bed. On the oilcloth roof there is a 1.5" slit in the center top, some crinkling from being closed up and a few brads missing along the back, but the long openings in the back are separate pieces and not rips. This is a hand-made factory or toy-maker piece, not father-made, and will display a pampered doll to fine advantage!!
