11.5” Simon & Halbig DEP 749 SH original costume c1890
Here’s a darling 749 in excellent
to mint condition, on a jointed composition French body. The perfect
little bisque head is incised: “DEP // 749 S H”, there are no marks
on the body. There is no damage and no repairs. She has deep blue
glass sleep eyes with full upper mohair lashes; painted multi-stroke
brows, fine lower lashes, blushed cheeks and smiling open mouth with
four miniscule molded square teeth and pierced ears. The body is clean
with joints at neck, shoulders, wrists and hips – arms and legs are
not jointed but are sensitively modeled. Her honey blonde mohair wig
flows in soft curls past her shoulders; original cork pate. Candy pink
silk twill all-original costume was made for the French market with
delicate lace and ribbon trimming the bodice. Styled with gigot
(leg-of-mutton) sleeves, double gathered waist and lace-trimmed hem.
Her stunning wired buckram bonnet matches perfectly with ribbons,
large front brim and spray of feathers framing her face. Underneath
she wears a chemise and matching pettipants with lace hems plus a
lace-hemmed petticoat. Lacy knit socks and tiny white kid boots finish
her delightful costume. This is a gorgeous little treasure to hold in
your hand. Very clean from a non smoking home.
