30" Antique Cloth BABYLAND RAG Life Like Face RARE Size
Babyland Rag dolls were made and
distributed by E. I. Horsman Co. and sold at R. H. Macy stores and
F.A.O. Schwarz, among others. The "life-like" lithographed face on
"No. 13 Babyland Dorothy – as big as a two-year old" has a very sweet
expression with gentle brown eyes, rosy cheeks, closed mouth slightly
smiling, and printed curly hair around the edges. The lithographed
face is stitched to a horsehair-stuffed cloth body with stitched
joints at shoulders, hips and knees; the mitten hands have
stitch-indicated fingers (right thumb worn through along with a few
tiny holes on hands). Her country girl white cotton long-sleeve dress,
poke bonnet, petticoat and chemise are original, trimmed in lace (some
missing areas of lace). There's also a flannelette chemise for warmth.
On her feet are antique children’s green knit socks and white kid
side-button shoes. Please see pg 61 to 65 in Linda Edwards' "Cloth
Dolls From Ancient To Modern". She's so cuddly, charming and cute and
will sit well in a child's chair or rocker! Very hard to find one in
this size. From a non smoking home.
