18” DEWEES COCHRAN Portrait Jeff @ 23yrs Latex 1960
The prospect to own a Dewees Cochran hand-made doll is a singular occasion! This handsome young man is Jefferson Jones at 23 years, the shy & quiet friend of better-known Peter Ponsett; mint all-original condition in red plaid swim trunks and brown naugahide sandals. Signed behind right ear: “DC (super-imposed) // JJ ’60 // 3” meaning he is number 3 of 50 possible (unknown how many were actually produced) Jefferson ‘Jeff’ Jones, made in 1960. Also marked under left arm: “DC (super-imposed indented) // Dewees Cochran”. There is no damage and no repairs. Jeff’s hand-painted face is well-chiseled and serious with striking blue eyes under fine lid lines with miniscule lashes, real hair upper lashes and multi-stroke brows; mouth is a dark coral. The wig is hand-wefted finest human hair in gold-flecked brown. Included is a pullover red, white & blue vest-shirt for when the sun goes down. Reference: The American Doll Artist Vol.1 by Helen Bullard, pgs. 31-46 & 179. This young gentleman is an artist-made treasure. Very clean from a non smoking home!
